On 19 March 2012, during a meeting at the Sokołów Podlaski Scout Centre we learned the winners of the competition for the best text about the history of Jews from Sokołów Podlaski and its vicinity. Below we present the compositions sent in for the competition.

Jewish Inhabitants of Skibniew
The Forgotten Shtetl
Before the war, about a dozen Jewish families lived in Skibniew, which is located between Sokołów Podlaski and Kosów Lacki, in the Sokołów Podlaski commune. Though Jews did not constitute a majority in the countryside, their presence was visible. The information regarding the local Jewish community comes from Skibniew inhabitants, mainly Irena Rogozińska and Eugenia Skorupka.
The elderly can still remember the names, occupations, and the places of residence of their old Jewish neighbours, most of whom lived in flats or houses rented from the locals. They worked in services or trade, or as artisans. What did that forgotten shtetl look like? What were the names of its inhabitants? Who were they? Here are some memories about the inhabitants of our village, so forgotten that they seem unreal.

Jewish cemetery in Sokolow
A few days ago I received a message from one Sokolow's resident that the area of "new" Jewish cemetery in Sokolow looks like a garbage dump. This area belongs to the state treasury. What can be done with this?

The Gszarim Foundation
The Gszarim Foundation was officially established in 2016, with the purpose of changing the world for the better and making it a place where memory of the past serves to support actions that shape our future. The goal of the Foundation is to build bridges, overcome stereotypes, commemorate the Polish-Jewish history and nurture the development of the Jewish community in Poland.
Yes, we are going to change the world for the better! That is why we set up a foundation that will, inter alia, conduct educational projects in Sokolow for young people. What do we want to do? A few years ago, we announced a contest for students for essay on the Jewish history of the town. The sponsor of the prize was Mr. Michael Traison. It was a good idea. Now we want to continue it. If you want to become a sponsor of the prize for young people, let us know! In the future, we would like the youth of Sokolow to go to Israel. Maybe you know the kibbutz who would be willing to host them for a few days? We also collect money to translate into English a book about the history of the Jewish community of Sokolow (written by Kasia) and publish it as an e-book (cost of translation is $3,500).
